BIOGRAPHY

Sen Ikebana is a New York City–based creative duo founded by Katsuko, a certified Sogetsu master, and Rurina, a certified Ikenobo master. Together, they create floral works that blend the beauty of tradition with contemporary expression, introducing the art of Japanese ikebana to a wide range of audiences.
Drawing from two distinctive schools of ikebana, sen ikebana offers a unique experience. Ikenobo, the oldest school of ikebana, is rooted in centuries of tradition, while Sogetsu is known for its modern and expressive approach. Together, these complementary styles showcase the depth and versatility of Japanese floral art.
Based in New York City, sen ikebana creates weekly floral arrangements for restaurants and commercial spaces, designs floral installations for events and exhibitions, and offers workshops for individuals, schools, cultural organizations, and businesses. Their mission is to make ikebana accessible and inspiring while sharing the beauty, creativity, and philosophy that continue to make it a living art form.
